Trivial Pursuit

Hey there readers. How's life treatin' you today. I'm great. Had a nice day so far. Woke up hungover at Christie's house, then hung out for a good few hours with her, just being lazy. She made pancakes! They were the shit. I made a little drawing of her cat sitting in the window sill, which proved difficult, because she kept moving. Drank coffee, then played some serious Tony Hawk. I decided to walk home, and the second I set foot outside, the skies went black and a terrible storm blasted in like a hurricane. Sand and debris pelted my face and eyes like tiny little bullets. I took shelter in the doorway of a liquor store and watched waves of rain pelt the concrete.

(whoa, a horse just went by outside)

So check this out. Ever seen the movie UHF? The dumb Weird Al movie? Well, when I was little I loved Weird Al, which is pretty dorky I know but hey, what can you do? Anyways, UHF was filmed in Tulsa, which is where I'm from. There was some kind of call for extras for certain scenes, so my dad was cool enough to take me to one. The scene was shot right outside of Tulsa, in the middle of farmland Oklahoma, at a decaying, old radio station building, complete with a rickety old radio tower. My dad and I waited there, along with a lively crowd of dorky folk, until Weird Al himself appeared in the passenger seat of a blue van. Between shots, which were loudly annouced through megaphones, dad and I ate those red, white and blue "bomb-pops" which we scored from a nearby ice cream man, cashing in on the crowd. Anyways, I recently rented this movie, in an effort to spot my dad and I. I remember seeing us in it right after it came out, but that was 1989, so the memory's a little hazy to say the least. I am 99 percent sure that I found us. Here we are, cheering away as ordered. I remember the shirts we were wearing too, so that's what I looked for.

Seems tiny and trivial, I know, but it meant a lot to me to find it. It reminds me of what a good dad I had. He had five other children, and worked his ass off everyday, yet he took the time to take me out to this shoot in the middle of the country. I was so excited. Three years after this was shot, he died in a car accident. Shit is fucked up.
